  • GeeWaWa Flora lives on

    photo

Being on a budget is not fun. That said, it is a part of life.  I am a bit in the deal mode myself right now. I started Ashbury Skies and am putting a lot of my very hard earned money into making this site the best offering of indie shoes in the market. We launched our site less than a year ago so we are still in the start-up-mode for sure. I need to look great but be mindful of what I am spending while building my business. For those of you in a similar budget mode,  I want to point of the a-m-a-z-i-n-g deal we have on the GeeWaWa flora. $99 bucks is a steal for this shoe. The look is so current and the quality of this shoe is great. GeeWaWa uses artisan leathers and I can promise that you will not be disappointed when you pull this baby out of the box.

LA blogger, Arizka Sehok, devilin thedetails.com, styled this look with her floras. We are all over platforms and shorts this summer. She is very Ashbury Skies.

  • Meet indie shoe designer, Matiko

When we launched our site, we knew that partnering with the right indie brands was key. We researched long and hard to come up with the best group of designers in the market. Matiko was always at the top of that list.  To me, their shoes have a LA street edginess to them, but in a very understandable, wearable way. They were early with the smoking slipper trend (which is an Ashbury Skies staple by the way) and always push the limit with interesting new bottoms. We love the newness that they continue to bring to the indie shoe market.

    Matiko

I think a  girl needs to have a strong sense of style to wear Matiko. The shoes are not ordinary, yet they are not the shoes in your closest that get worn a few times either.

Matt Howard, the creative brains behind this brand, designed his Spring collection with his home state of Hawaii in mind. He had some pretty cool things to say about this collection that he shared with me recently:

Tell me about your Hawaii themed collection:It seemed like a perfect theme for us this season.  We created three distinct color themes within the collection. Each set representing the different aspects of the islands.  Earthy tones that represent the sand and earth, blues and coral red tones you would see in the sea, and then our pop color set that include colors like neon green that represent the plant and other exotic life that can be abundantly found.

When I design, the girl I have in mind is:18-35, independent, fashion forward

In life I am most inspired by: Southern California's eclectic and funky mix of people, styles, and personalities.

At the moment, I am obsessed with: Laser cut, Italian napa.

Do you have a favorite blog? The Matiko blog is pretty awesome... matikoshoes.com/blog ; )

The best advice I have ever got is: Measure twice, cut once.

I can’t live without:  My Mac

Favorite on my play list right now is: Iggy Azalea – My World

If I could go back in time and bring back one trend it would be: Back to the 70's when peace and love was the biggest trend.

On the weekends I: Sit home and think about shoes.

  • Summer fav: Matt Bernson Delphine

My love affair with all things Native American is still going strong. I love this beaded sandal, the Delphine, by Matt Bernson.  The mini wedge is such a wearable height . I am going to live in this sandal this summer.  San Francisco Outland Festival, here we come! This shoe is summer music festival perfect.

  • Hello GeeWaWa Daphne and Daisy

A little bit boho and totally on trend; the Daphne is back in stock!  The richness of the leather and the proportions of the platform warrant regular wear for countless days. She has a sister called Daisy as well!  Ok, we are a little shoe obsessed but we can honestly say happiness has arrived to Ashbury Skies with the restock of our little star, the Daphne and her sister Daisy. We are stoked!

  • Matiko Paris

We believe you can learn a lot about someone from a quick glance at their shoes. Bare your soul to the world when you slip on the Paris from Matiko. This has a hint of city casual but still enough sophistication to fall into the dress up or down category. We are especially fond of the two-tone neutral color story.
