  • Aussie girls LOVE Gee'WaWa

Our southern hemisphere friends in Australia, who are enjoying summer right now, are snatching up designs from our beloved local San Francisco bay area designer Gee’WaWa. We shipped these out last week and waiting for me in my in-box yesterday was this GREAT pic from Debbie in Australia. She snapped this of herself in her spanking new purple Floras. Love the purple diors hiding behind the camera too! Hey Aussie girls, keep the pics and orders coming. We love sending our shoes your way.

    Miss Representation Trailer
I saw the above trailer on facebook the other day, and I got all riled up. Mary Sue & I were chatting about how male dominated the shoe biz is. Ironic, right? Despite the undisputed love affair many women have with shoes, it is rare to see women in the business side of shoes. So we take pride in knowing that we are changing those facts, and we thank all of you that support not only our female owned business, but all female owned businesses. Represent!

  • Meet Messeca

When I see the Messeca line at shoe shows and hang with brand creators Nicole Ortega and Pablo Delgado I see a brand that is destined for indie greatness. They seem to have a combination of all the right stuff : innovation, edginess, good business skills and a passion for shoes. All of which are key ingredients for building a brand. I love this line for so many reasons, but I think the main one is that this line just screams urban dweller which make it  a perfect fit for Ashbury Skies.

Nicole and Pablo graciously agreed to answer a few questions for my blog:

Our collection is inspired by: A perfect blend of all the things that surround our day-to-day lives and all the things we fantasize about.

When we create, the girl we have in mind is: The everyday girl who is never satisfied.

In life we are most inspired by: P- Faith, N-Survivors.

At the moment, we are obsessed with: P- The Hunger Games. N- The Brooklyn Public Library & Isabel Marant Sneakers

We can’t go a day without checking out this blog: The Man Repeller & NY Times Fashion & Style/Bill Cunningham (Thursdays)

The best advice we have ever got is: P- Follow your dreams and never give up! N- Sometimes you have to take two steps back to leap forward and always remember your not doing it for the money.

    We can’t live without: P-Family & Friends. N-Chapstick , Jonathan W. Ritzman, my Miami friends/family

Fav on my play list right now is: P- A guilty pleasure not to be announced N- The Unknown by Niko Villamor

If we could go back in time and bring back one trend it would be: P- I want to be 2 years old and rock my OshKosh B’Gosh overalls and white Keds. Nicole- Braces/Retainer, just for a few days.

On Friday nights we: P- I stay in and read. N- I stay in, unless there’s a celebration going on somewhere.

Redbull or Coffee person?  Coffee!! We have a morning ritual, at 9:00 a.m. we go down to our local bodega, get coffee, chat with the employees (hey Ferry & Linda!!!) & crack some jokes. It’s how we start every work day.

Which of your personal possession most clearly yells: fashion victim? P- McQueen Kilt . N- Hello Kitty Snow Boots

If you couldn’t create shoes and you could have any other job, what would it be? P- An Oscar nominated actor. N: I would love to be involved with hip-hop music….anything Wu-Tang, Nas, Jay-Z, Gangstarr, Mos Def: the classics. It’s my secret love.

  • Dolce Vita Joanna 70's clog is instock!

The '70s made a sophisticated return to the runways this fall, and Dolce Vita’s color block clog, Joanna, is the perfect interpretation.  We think this is a chic nod to this trend which is being spotted coast to coast from Haight Street to Bleecker Street. We are in stock and ready to ship!
